A Bit About Me

Hello! My name is Jess, and I am a Registered Provisional Psychologist. I enjoy working with individual adults who are looking for support with grief and loss, life transitions, emotional regulation, trauma, relationship issues, stress management, family violence, boundaries, and communication. I also have a passion for supporting those I work with in finding meaning and purpose in their lives, with a particular focus on relationships with themselves, others, and the world.

Services

Areas: Grief (including grief over death, anticipatory grief, and non-death related loss such as leaving a job, the ending of a relationship, etc.), end of life care for both the dying and their caregivers, trauma, relationship concerns, self-esteem and self-acceptance, emotional regulation (anxiety, depression, low mood, stress, anger) and distress tolerance, boundaries, and communication.

Clients: Adults ages 18 and older. I have worked with many people who are preparing for the death of a loved one and who have lived through loss. I also work with first responders who witness death and traumatic environments. I have also worked with people wanting to manage experiences of anxiety, sadness, anger, overwhelm, relationship conflicts and endings, and many other things. Please book in for a 15 minute complimentary phone consultation to ask any questions about what you are looking for support with.

Specific training: Integrative trauma and attachment treatment, transactional analysis, family trauma and domestic violence, emotionally focused family and individual therapy, CBT, motivational interviewing.

Office hours: Monday – Friday, mornings, afternoons, and evenings

Rate: $200. I also offer sliding scale fees, depending on your personal financial situation. Please book in for a consult, appointment, or email me to chat more about this.

Therapeutic Approach

My counselling style is guided by developing a trusting, secure, and collaborative connection with those I work with, providing space to explore what is important and beneficial for you. I believe that the relationship we develop with one another is an important aspect of the outcome of therapy and life in general: feeling connected to another, and able to work through hard moments together, is foundational to feeling connected to ourselves and working through some of the struggles that life brings.

My current practice is grounded in Person-Centered Therapy, which means that I take my lead from the person I am working with. You get to decide the focus of therapy, how you would like things to play out during our time together, and I believe that you are the expert of your own experience. I also pull from Existential therapy, which focused on purpose in life and facing questions and moment of mortality and meaning. Some of the other approaches we might draw from during our work together include Emotionally Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Transactional Analysis, Gestalt, Expressive Arts, Mindfulness, and body based approaches such as Somatic Experiencing.

The values that guide my work include diversity, equality, autonomy, honesty, compassion, integrity, and empathy. My goal is to be present with my clients to truly hear and understand their unique experiences and to provide a safe and supportive environment for personal exploration and growth.
